Increased tanker inspections

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority ( AMSA ) will inspect all tankers over 15 years of age and all single hulled tankers visiting Australian ports following the sinking of the Prestige off the coast of Spain.

Tankers in Australian waters will be closely monitored by AMSA and those ships identified at any Australian port with serious deficiencies expected to affect seaworthiness and the safety of crew, or pose a threat to the environment will be detained.
