Port Congestion at Nouakchott

Members are advised to note that at present there appears to be a labour dispute affecting the Port of Noukachott, Mauritania. The dispute appears to be related to working practices for the importation of sugar.

The Association understands that vessels carrying sugar may be particularly affected due to this situation, but there are possible knock on effects which would impact on other vessels too.

It would appear that the situation has lasted for one week already, leading to heavy port congestion.

Members carrying sugar cargo or planning on carrying such cargo to Nouakchott, are advised to contact the Association for further assistance.

In general, Members calling to this port should be alive to this issue and its possible impact on planned voyage durations, laytime and demurrage calculations.

In case of further queries, Members are asked to contact the Association: lossprevention@skuld.com
