KPC Oil Terminal mooring requirements

From 1st July 2004 a check on moorings will be made by the Duty Harbour Master on all vessels calling at Mina Al Ahmadi, Mina Shuaiba and Mina Abdullah terminals. For all those vessels, which do not comply with the new mooring requirements a standby tug will be deployed. The hire charges for the tug will be USD$4,000 per call in addition to the existing port charges.

All LPG vessels and all vessels above 75,000 DWT, visiting the KPC Oil Terminals must have at least eight (8) steel mooring wires (or high-modulus synthetic mooring ropes) at each end – forward and aft. The ropes shall be fitted with standard rope tails at the jetty end. The suggested final mooring pattern shall be 3 head (or stern lines), 3 breasts and 2 spring lines. The mooring pattern may vary slightly in accordance with the vessel’s size, the position of hooks ashore and the pilot’s recommendations.

All vessels other than those mentioned above shall have at least six (6) steel mooring wires (or high-modulus synthetic mooring ropes) at each end – forward and aft. Mixed mooring are not be used.

In case of special pilot’s recommendation, or expected bad weather, 2 additional mooring ropes shall be requested from the vessels, and made fast ashore as needed.

In case a vessel cannot comply with the above mooring requirement, she will have to accept a standby tug provided by KOC for the whole period of the loading. This tug will standby near the vessel for any emergency, bad weather condition, or a sudden movement of the vessel from the berth. The cost of this tug will be as per KOC standby rates, the same as are applicable to the vessels visiting our SPMs.
