It has been recognised that shipowners may not rely solely upon a Certificate of Class for their vessel as evidence of seaworthiness in defence of claims. A Certificate of Class does not represent independent verification that an owner has properly maintained his vessel, nor that he has exercised due diligence to make the vessel seaworthy. As stated by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS): “…such a certificate does not imply, and should not be construed as, a warranty of safety, fitness for purpose or seaworthiness of the ship. It is an attestation only that the vessel is in compliance with the Rules that have been developed and published by the Society issuing the classification certificate.”<\/p>\n

Rarely has a classification society been held responsible to compensate a third party for the omissions of the shipowner.<\/p>\n

\u7531\u4e8e\u8239\u4e1c\u7684\u758f\u5ffd\u5bfc\u81f4\u5bf9\u7b2c\u4e09\u65b9\u7684\u8d23\u4efb\uff0c\u51e0\u4e4e\u6ca1\u6709\u8ba9\u8239\u7ea7\u793e\u6765\u627f\u62c5\u8d23\u4efb\u7684\u5148\u4f8b\u3002<\/p>\n
