Therefore, this article is intended to be a brief overview of the main conditions that are generally required for laytime (or, if applicable, demurrage) to commence, together with references to the significant supporting case law underpinning the guiding principles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In general terms, there are three conditions which need to be satisfied under most charterparties before laytime can commence. These are:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. The vessel must have arrived at the destination specified in the charter; <br \/>2. The vessel must be ready in all material respects and in a fit condition to load or discharge the cargo; and <br \/>3. Where required, the vessel must tender valid Notice of Readiness (\u201cNOR\u201d) confirming the vessel\u2019s arrival and readiness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once these conditions have been met, the vessel is an \u201carrived ship\u201d for the purposes of the contractual laytime\/demurrage regime, and time will begin to run.
