In a recent case in Singapore, The \u201cYue You 902\u201d – Singapore High Ct [2019] SGHC 106 \u2013 24 April 2019, on 11 March 2016, FGV Trading Sdn Bhd (FGV) entered into a voyage charterparty with the defendant owner of the vessel Yue You 902 (\u201cthe vessel\u201d) for the carriage of a cargo of palm oil. On 4 April 2016, Aavanti Industries Pte Ltd (\u201cAavanti\u201d) contracted to sell 10,000 mt palm oil to Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd (\u201cRuchi\u201d).<\/p>\n

Gulf of Guinea Remains A High-risk Area For Seafarers<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The effect of piracy on crew and their safety continues to be a cause for concern and transiting West African waters remains particularly difficult. In the first half of 2019, 73% of all kidnappings at sea, and 92% of hostage-takings, took place in the Gulf of Guinea.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Of the 75 seafarers taken hostage onboard or kidnapped for ransom worldwide so far this year, 62 were captured in the Gulf of Guinea – off the coasts of Nigeria, Guinea, Togo, Benin and Cameroon, states the International Maritime Bureau\u2019s (IMB) in its half-year report published on 8 July 2019.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
