May 2010 Update – Asian Gypsy Moth<\/p>\n

A joint circular (as attached) is currently issued by the US Department of Agriculture & the Canadian Food Inspection Agency stressing the problems caused by the Asian gypsy moth infestation of vessels calling from China, Korea, Japan, Eastern Russia & Northern China (ports north of Shanghai) with period from 1st June through 30th September. Because of that, the US & Canadian agencies would like to reduce such risk in incurring in North America.<\/p>\n

Recommendations for owners with vessels calling in Asian ports and destined for North America:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. written pre-departure certificate proving vessel is free of Asian gypsy moth should be sent to their North American agents<\/li>\n
  2. if pre-departure certification is not available, own inspection should be carried out according to “Gypsy Moth Inspection Pocket Guide” 5 days in advance before arrive the North American port.<\/li>\n
  3. a copy of vessel’s voyage history of ports & dates should be forwarded to the North American agents 2 days prior the arrival of vessel in North America which the agents will forward to the local agricultural inspectors for their consideration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Non-compliance with the above requirements will lead to delay and strict adherence to the recommendations on the circular is strongly recommended.<\/p>\n
