Ports of Fujairah sounds warning on single Hulls<\/strong><\/p>\n

UAE loading port Fujairah has warned single-hull tankers to stay away once they have reached their phase-out dates under the Marpol conventions.<\/p>\n

The person in charge of Fujairah port said once tankers that will reach the phase-out dates under Marpol 73\/78would not be able to conduct cargo operation at the port\u2019s oil terminal.<\/p>\n

Any single-huller over 15 years old must have condition assessment scheme certification from its class society and also approval to trade from its flag state if they wish to trade to the port. However, single-hullers could still conduct cargo and other service operations at the port\u2019s anchorage but they must be ballast.<\/p>\n

Attack 2,574 kilometers out<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 28,400 dwt Nord Sincere (built 2010) was attacked by a number of skiffs at an incredible 2,574 kilometers east of Somalia.<\/p>\n

Swedish Club News<\/strong><\/p>\n

Swedish Club, declares in their bulletin Triton that in year 2009 all three insurance classes, protection &Indemnity, Hull& Machinery and Fright Demurrage & Defence, as well as the investment portfolio contributed positively to the result. The overall Surplus for the Club was USD 14.8 million and at the end of the year the free reserves were at USD 121.7 million.<\/p>\n

Congestion Persists<\/strong><\/p>\n

Around 12% of the dry-bulk fleet is tied up in queues after port congestion worsened. Said by ICAP Shipping, the collective figure for Australia, Brazil, China and India sharply from the end of May and exceed 50 million dwt. In Australia, the worst affected are capsize bulkers. The congestion is particularly severe along Australia\u2019s east coast. According to ICAP, though the panamaxes have also seen increasing congestion, the current total worldwide is below the peak time two months ago.<\/p>\n
