Handling Procedures for Vessel Crane Damage Arising from Latent Defects
Shipboard cranes are core cargo-handling auxiliary equipment for ocean-going vessels. Sudden fracture or falling accidents of ship cranes caused by latent defects in manufacturing, materials and craftsmanship represent a high-frequency risk in shipping practices. Where a ship crane suffers accidental damage, the incident usually involves multiple insurance covers, namely H&M, P&I, and FDD, with corresponding claim handlers taking up the case simultaneously. Each insurer primarily assesses liabilities and conducts surveys within the scope of its own insurance coverage, rather than conducting comprehensive case verification.
