Venezuela – U.S. Sanctions Relief
On 18th October the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued 4 General Licenses suspending selected sanctions, in response to the signing of an electoral roadmap agreement between Venezuela’s Unitary Platform and representatives of Maduro.
Of most interest to Members and clients is likely to be General License 44, which temporarily authorises transactions related to the oil and gas sector in Venezuela (including transactions involving PdVSA or any entity in which PdVSA owns, directly or indirectly 50% or greater interest) until 12:01 am eastern daylight time, April 18th, 2024.
