1. Marine Asset Security and Training (MAST) Ltd
Galle (Embark Guards and Firearms) – West Indian Port (Guards and Firearms stay on board to be sealed and declared to Port Authorities in advance) – Muscat (Disembark Guards and Firearms)
- Security Fee: GBP21500 up to 6 days passage for a 3 man team on board, and days in excess GBP2250/day.
- Plus embarkation fee in Galle: about USD4000
- Plus disembarkation fee in Muscat: about GBP2000
2. Protection Vessels International (PVI) Ltd
4 Armed guards on board up to 7 days about : £22,400
Agency transfer fees to embark pers. and firearms Galle about : £1,600
Agency transfer fees to disembark pers.and firearms Muscat about: £4,500
Mobilisation fee: £1,600
3. Drum Cussac
3 security team on board : £2,700 per day
Day rate (Mobilization/ demobilization) : £1,350
Weapons surcharge (fixed fee) : £3,000
Agents fees: cost +10%
Operational costs (flights and accommodation) : cost +10%
Some factors when choosing armed Guard Firm:-
- Take up references
- Check the references
- See if you can check out the company informally with people you know (no white/ blacklists)
- Place of registration & business – an indication of how serious the company is
- Background and experience of company- for example a background in Iraq may not be so useful on a ship.
- How long in business
- Size of organisation
- Are they members of Industry organisations such as BAPSC (British Association of Private Security Companies)
- Are they willing to accept IOCC- International Code of Conduct for Private Security Companies?
- Do they have an ability to provide unarmed guards, crew training and other assistance – if so this may suggest an awareness of broader aspects of security rather than just providing hired guns?
