We would like to remind ship-owners that, under the current U.S. sanctions against Iran, the USD dollar transfer in connection with some listed Iranian company may be frozen by Office of Foreign Assets Control of United States while the remittance passes American bank system. The more crucial problem is that most banks would hesitate to get involved in any banking facilities involving Iran.
China may have better foreign relationship with Iran and are not prepared to be bound by any sanctions imposed by the U.S. or E.U. However, once any remittance is to be transferred through any banks having a presence in the U.S., then those banks will hesitate to accept telegraphic transfer instructions related to an Iranian company. For instance, even if a bank in China accepted the telegraphic transfer instructions but if the correspondent bank has an office in the U.S. which they almost certainly do, will hesitate to effect any telegraphic transfer to a company in Iran.
We suggest ship-owners to check with their local bank in China who should be well-versed of the above before make remittance to or receive remittance from companies with Iranian background.
