ENG    CHN    New Carbage Disposal Rules

The ‘A’ rated 170 million GT North P&I Club has reminded its Members that 2013 is the first full year of operation of new international garbage-disposal rules that greatly limit the dumping of garbage at sea. The reminder comes in the latest issue of the Club’s loss prevention newsletter Signals, published today (16 January 2013).

According to North’s loss prevention manager Andrew Glen, ‘With very few specific exceptions, the new rules reverse the historical presumption that most garbage can be discharged at a suitable distance offshore. Shipowners thus need to ensure they have the right garbage-disposal procedures and policies in place and continue to keep the seas clean throughout 2013 and beyond.’

北英保赔协会提醒船东2013年保持海洋清洁

北英保赔协会的标准普尔信用评级为A，拥有1亿7千万船舶吨位数。协会提醒会员2013年是全面实施新国际垃圾处理规则的第一年，该规则极大地限制了往海洋倾倒垃圾的行为。协会于2013年1月16日出版防损通讯Singals以示提醒。

北英保赔协会防损经理 Andrew Glen 表示，”除极少的特定情况外，新规则推翻了之前的一个历史性推定，即多数垃圾可以在适当的海岸距离外排放。因此，船东需确保船上具备正确的垃圾处理规程和规则，在2013年及以后保持海洋的清洁。”
