We would like to inform our clients the latest update on oil spill at Gulf of Mexico, U.S.A after the explosion and oil spill from the oil rig “Deepwater Horizon”. Refer to the source; The U.S. Coast Guard advises vessel traffic to avoid any spill areas during voyages in the vicinity of Southeast Louisiana, as well as the approaches to Southwest Pass. At present, the outflow of fresh water from the Mississippi River should tend to keep oil away from the immediate approaches to Southwest Pass. There are still unobstructed at Mississippi River and its primary deep water entrance, Southwest pass, remain fully open to inbound and outbound marine traffic.

But in the future, depending on the movement of oil on the water, it may be necessary for vessels to divert outside the “safety fairways” in order to make their approach to the Southwest Pass sea buoy. We suggest the client may advise pilot to approaching U.S. Coast Pilot if necessary. If any vessel becomes oiled during the approach to the areas, the U.S Coast Guard may be required to stop at “Decontamination Stations” in the lower river before proceeding and this could eventually become mandatory. Therefore we do recommend our client instructs the vessels steering around any obvious floating oil.

We would advise all our Client should liaise in the first instance with their local agents, who should be aware of the latest position. We would be notifying you if we receive any further information.

如果船舶在前往该地区途中沾染上泄露的石油,美国海岸卫队会指示该被污染船舶在浅水区域的「污染清除站」停泊进行油污处理。因此我们建议客户让船舶绕过任何明显有石油漂浮的海域航行。
