The UK P&I Club offers the following advice to ship owners and charterers who load grains at ports in Washington and Oregon.

Loading grain in the Pacific Northwest can be a real test of patience. For ship owners not familiar with the Pacific Northwest where it rains approximately 150 to 180 days per year, with rain totals averaging 40 inches per year, it is important to maximize loading during periods of light rain and prevent vessel delays while avoiding water damage to the cargo during periods of heavy rain.
