International Marine Dangerous Good Code (IMDG)

The International Marine Dangerous Good Code (IMDG) has now become law with effect from 1 January 2004 in those countries who have acceded to SOLAS.

国际海上危险货物运输规则将从2004年1月1日起对那些加入《国际海上人命安全公约》国家产生法律效力。

The Code contains requirements for the type of packing, which types of cargoes cannot be stowed together and how they must be marked. The Code can be downloaded from IMO at their website www.imo.org/blast/mainframe.asp?topic_id=158.

We would advise all our clients to be aware of the IMDG Code and ensure they have in place procedures to apply and enforce it as this Code has now attained force of law, and every prudent owner is expected to know of it and apply it.

We would also advise non compliance with the Code which give rise to a claim may well prejudice P&I Club cover and there is a rule of all P&I Clubs which excludes liability for voyages which are hazardous, improper or not prudently carried out.
