Taiwan Marine Pollution Act

The international Group of P&I Clubs have in June 2005 issued a circular advising the existence of the Pollution Act in Taiwan which was implemented in August 2004 but which will be effective on 1st July 2005. A grace period may be granted which is being discussed.

The Act similarly follows the recent Japanese laws for vessels to have approved P&I insurance covers as a condition of entry into their waters. The Act will apply to all tanker s over 150 GT and all other vessels over 400 GT.

The jurisdiction of Taiwan Act will extend to Taiwan's exclusive economic zone.

It is not certain which P&I insurers will be approved but it is invariably likely the international Group P&I Club an approved insurer.
