Fine business in Togo

The Association has previously notified Members about the impositions of fines in Togo. The Head of Port Customs has now gone further to impose time limits on the settlement of customs fines.

Any negotiation on the fine must take place within 21 days of the date of receipt of the outturn report and payment of the fine is to be made within 8 weeks of the date of the negotiations. If these time limits are not respected, Customs will impose the full amount of the fine as originally calculated and will, furthermore, block all activities of the ship’s agent or owner in the port of Lome.
