Fire at tank farm in Tripoli

The situation
Members will be aware, and as have been reported by a number of news agencies, that there was a fire at one of Tripoli's oil depots. The fire started on Monday and while there are conflicting reports on the magnitude of the fire, it does appear to still be a going concern. The cause of the fire may be related to a continuing conflict situation in the city.

Information from our local correspondents, Germa Shipping & Stevedoring Co as well as Gargoum Legal Marine, are that the fire is not close to the port of Tripoli itself and at present does not present an immediate danger to the port. However, due to the fire, there may be interruptions to oil cargo coming out from Tripoli at the moment.

Loss prevention advice
Members who are planned, or are fixed, to call at Tripoli and other Libyan ports should carefully monitor developments. Previous advice with respect to security and safety is reiterated, and members are asked to consider the most recent Association advice in that regard.

For members who are due to lift cargo at Tripoli, the advice is to contact their usual Skuld Business unit to discuss these issues further.

In the meantime for further information, members are asked to contact the Association: lossprevention@skuld.com
