Changes to the Rules of Navigation

The Suez Canal Rules of Navigation relating to the assignment of extra pilots have been changed, as a result of the waterway's considerable development.

In its Circular No. 2/2004, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) advises that Para.G.B. Article 11 SC Rules of Navigation have been amended to read as follows:

"G) Extra pilots:

(1) Extra pilots shall be assigned in the following cases:

B) Fourth generation container ships, third generation container ships over 60 000 S.C.G.T. and lashes of 35 000 S.C.G.T. and over".

This change took effect from 1st July 2004. Other cases remain unchanged.
