Iraq
Procedures for Iraq Pilots
Please note the following procedure that will apply to a Pilot who stays on board any vessel leaving Basrah Oil Terminal and Khor Al Amaya:
- The seapilot is only allowed to stay on board until the next port on explicit approval of the charterers or owners as well as having a written statement from the master requesting the pilot to stay on board.
- As no fee is mentioned in the IPA tariff for the pilot to be overcarried, the master should negotiate a price* with the pilot who on acceptance, will then have to sign a receipt for monies received. IPA will then recover 25% of this.
- The pilot is entitled to stay in a first class hotel and to return to Iraq on a first class ticket for either a ferry or airline.
- This is stipulated in the Iraqi Maritime Law articles 77 & 78
When the vessel is alongside only:
As per IPA tariff, if a pilot is kept waiting through any fault of the vessel or vessel's agent then there will be a charge of $250 per hour or part thereof. If a pilot launch is also detained, there will be an additional hire charge of $100 per hour or party thereof.
* Expect approx. USD4000 for this but we are currently negotiating with IPA to reduce this fee.
